MCP Exclusive: Behind The Scenes with JD & The Straight Shot

New York City-based Americana outfit JD & The Straight Shot is gearing up to release its sixth studio album Good Luck And Good Night on September 15th. The dynamic group, which includes vocalist/guitarist Jim Dolan, guitarist Marc Copely (B.B. King, Rosanne Cash), bassist Byron House (Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton), violinist/fiddler Erin Slaver (Martina McBride, Rod Stewart) and drummer/percussionist Shawn Pelton (Sheryl Crow, Levon Helm, Saturday Night Live band), pushed themselves harder than ever before, and enlisted the talents of fellow bandmate Copely to produce and mix the all-acoustic record at Soundstage Studios in Nashville.

Good Luck And Good Night is acoustically cinematic and has a tasty morsel for every kind of musical palate.  Encompassing a range of sonic influences as broad as the Americana landscape itself, it features features rollicking road tunes sharing digital real estate with gospel music, Irish folk, and Appalachian-infused roots. The band lyrically tackles everything from forbidden love and domestic abuse to salvation and the ability to change, and also houses a reimagining of Three Dog Night’s “Shambala,” as well as an homage to friend Glenn Frey with The Eagles’ tune “It’s Your World Now.”

Today, the band shares some intimate insight into the making of Good Luck And Good Night, with stories and anecdotes about the songs and the recording process itself. Without further ado, Mother Church Pew proudly presents this exclusive behind-the-scenes video from JD & The Straight Shot:
