“Smiling” -New Video from Lady Wray

We can’t get enough of the soulful sounds of Lady Wray. Discovered by Missy Elliot at age 16, she has everything you’d want in a singer: an infectious Jackson-5-family-member flare, a range like Aretha’s, a church upbringing that lends an untouchable purity to her vocals, and an authenticity that only can come from a rich history in the business, one that’s equally textured by struggle and success.

The Virginia-born vocalist, who climbed the ranks of ’90s hip-hop with Missy Elliot, Timbaland, and more, released Queen Alone in September via Big Crown Records. The stunning album is a rebirth of sorts; with autobiographical hints throughout, Wray uses each track to tell pieces of her story, declaring that it’s taken a while to find her way, but she’s ready to succeed. She recalls lessons learned from success and loss of material things, each song an acknowledgement of the past and a look forward with expectancy to the opportunities ahead.

With her new video for album track, “Smiling,” Wray shows off a day in the life of her now-home base of Atlanta as she soaks in the little things about the city that help her keep her head up. From a trip to the hair salon to a trip down memory lane with polaroids of Missy, Lady Wray’s latest installment is exploding with positivity. Let “Smiling” make your day:
