Wisconsin’s Shane Leonard, a.k.a. Kalispell, has a musical pedigree that spans collaborations with familiar names like Field Report, The Stray Birds, Sean and Sara Watkins of Nickel Creek, and Sean Carey, to teaching music through the Exploration School at Yale University. After dropping out of music school to teach English, he embarked on a four-year exploration down Appalachian backroads to learn clawhammer banjo and old time fiddle from masters Clyde Davenport, Lee Sexton, Frank Lee, Bob Carlin, and Joe Newberry.
