Fronted by lead singers Annalyse McCoy and Ryan Dunn, 2/3 Goat (pronounced Two Thirds Goat) melds alt-country, bluesy bluegrass, and classic rock which echo the core members’ diverse roots: Annalyse descended directly from the infamous McCoys of Eastern Kentucky, and Ryan was deeply rooted in the beach culture of southern New Jersey. McCoy, a seasoned performer, grew up singing at festivals and renowned venues throughout Kentucky. She attended Northern Kentucky University earning a BFA. Dunn started singing early as well, performing on the boardwalks at a young age. While attending Elon University, Dunn was a member of the vocal jazz group Elan, and was a cofounder of Twisted Measure, Elon’s very first a Capella group. He and McCoy met in New York City, and soon after, 2/3 Goat was born.
The band has been touring the eastern United States from Texas to New England for over 3 years. Showcasing at CMJ and unofficially at SXSW 2013 and 2014, the band has played on stage with such artists as Kathy Mattea, Trent Wagler of The Steel Wheels, Big Kenny of Big & Rich, and Daniel Martin Moore.
Let It Rise is due for release on April 15th; Snag a listen to their latest single from the album, the honky-tonktastic “Whiskey Sins”, a fun hybrid of alt-country, classic rock, and blues that deals with three loves of vocalist McCoy–named Jack, Jim and Johnny:
