“Something Tells Me” – New Music from Bailen

New York-based folktastic force BAILEN, who performed on the debut LP of MCP’s “Best of 2015” alumnus John Fatum, recently released a lovely new tune called “Something Tells Me”– a must-listen!

Comprised of twins Daniel and David and their younger sister Julia, this group has blood harmony by the bushel, and their three-part harmonies, which have been compared to The Fleet Foxes and The Staves, are beautifully executed.  After finding their live sound during Rockwood weekly residencies in New York, BAILEN began recording their album in a bedroom studio in Morningside Heights.  After 2 years, David’s vocal hemorrhage, and scrapping a full album’s worth of work, their new self-produced album is finally done.

Of the inspiration behind the song, the band says, “David had the chorus in his head after he met his girlfriend…Daniel is responsible for introducing them…so not sure where credit for the song should go!  It took us a while to figure out what angle to write about around the chorus.  Julia was reading Steinbeck’s East of Eden and had the idea for the verses’ lyrics, which made the chorus feel more meaningful. The song is really about kindred spirits finding each other; we all have things we hide from the world and falling in love is really entrusting those secrets in someone.”

Check out the band’s performance video for the song; if you dig what you hear, you can catch BAILEN live in London tonight through January 12th, and in New York City in March!
